NYSF Thanks our many collaborators - feature image, used as a supportive image and isn't important to understand article

“I would like to thank each and every one of our collaborators for their generous, engaging and inspiring contributions to our programs." Dr Damien Pearce, NYSF CEO

Each year the National Youth Science Forum reaches out to a number of science, technology, engineering, medical (and more) organisations to seek their engagement to host a lab visit for the young participants of our programs, be it for the NYSF Year 12 Program, the NYSF STEM Explorer Program or for the science teachers attending the NSTSS. It is the enthusiastic response and whole-hearted support offered by these organisations that truly makes our programs what they are - with a truly diverse range of examples of scientific careers and endeavours.

There are a number of organisations that have readily welcomed our young participants for a number of years including; Geoscience AustraliaIcon Water, and the Canberra Deep Space Communications Centre (to name only a few!). A complete list of all of our collaborators for the 2018 program year can be found here on our website.

Dr Damien Pearce, NYSF's CEO, says "A core goal of the NYSF and its programs is to provide students with insight into the diversity and dynamism of STEM careers. Without the voluntary efforts of our numerous collaborators, who do such an amazing job of sharing their labs and workspaces with our young participants, the NYSF Year 12 Program in particular, simply wouldn’t be the incredible and diverse experience that we are so proud to be able to offer.”

A long standing collaborator is the Geoscience Australia. Shona Blewett, Coordinator of Geoscience Australia's Education Centre, who worked to coordinate this year’s visit for the students says, "By challenging these students with real-world problems, we are giving the students practical geoscience experience. We aim to make this an applied and engaging experience so that each of these students are inspired to explore geoscience further and ultimately pursue a geoscience career."

Dr. Pearce emphasises the importance of these relationships. "I believe that it is exactly this kind of cooperative spirit and passion for sharing a love of science that we find so readily in the STEM community, that proves so infectious, and demonstrates to the young STEM students the collaborative and supportive work environment that they themselves could enjoy if they do go on to pursue a career in STEM.”
