Bright minds come together for Melbourne’s first National Youth STEM Summit - feature image, used as a supportive image and isn't important to understand article

"The discussions around real-world impact, especially in energy transition and emerging technologies, were truly inspiring and reinforced my commitment to contributing through research and collaboration.”

Over 160 delegates from across Australia came together in July in Melbourne for the 2025 National Youth STEM Summit, a three-day event packed with science and technology inspiration, designed to kickstart careers. Hosted at NYSF Partner, Swinburne University of Technology’s Hawthorn campus, the STEM Summit featured an exciting lineup of keynote speakers, hands-on workshops, interactive panels, and networking opportunities. For many, it was their first time experiencing a conference-style event.

Highlights included addresses from leading scientists and innovators, including Professor Misty Jenkins AO FTSE from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, Dr Doug Hilton AO from CSIRO, and Professor Alan Duffy from Swinburne University of Technology.

Immersive workshops focused on career development, communication skills, and ways to improve your pitching.  Panel discussions explored the local Melbourne STEM landscape, skills needed to succeed in the workplace, and tips for building a meaningful career in science and tech.

The event featured a STEM Study and Careers expo, which allowed delegates to speak directly with professionals from universities, research institutions, and industry about STEM careers and post-graduate university pathways.
