Western Australian Students celebrate their selection to the 2026 NYSF Year 12 Program with the Western Australian Governor, His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM

"The impact of these (NYSF) programs extends far beyond the individuals. It also creates benefits that stretch across communities and borders."

Students in Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland were lucky enough to celebrate their selection to the 2026 NYSF Year 12 Program at recent Governors’ receptions hosted by Governors in their state.

The receptions allowed students to meet other selected students in their state and celebrate their achievement with NYSF Student Staff Leaders, Rotarians, special guests, and members of the NYSF Staff.

We are deeply grateful to the Governors of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Jeannette Young AC PSM, Western Australia, His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM and Tasmania, Her Excellency Barbara Baker AC and their staff and thank them for hosting such lovely events for participants of the 2026 NYSF Year 12 Program and guests.

We also thank the Governors of Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia for sending congratulatory messages to selected students in their state.

“I'd like to thank the National Youth Science Forum for its commitment to supporting young Australians with a passion for science. The impact of these programs extends far beyond the individuals. It also creates benefits that stretch across communities and borders,” said Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Gardner, AC FASSA, Governor of Victoria

“As the former chief scientist of Australia, Dr Cathy Foley AO PSM once said, 'If it’s not against the laws of physics, everything is possible.” Watch the Governor of Victoria’s message HERE

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazly, AC, KC also congratulated NSW students with a recorded message.

“You are taking up this opportunity when there is a STEM skill shortage throughout Australia and a widespread recognition of the importance of supporting young people like you to become our science and technology leaders of the future.

I have no doubt that with your interest and growing expertise in STEM, there will be many career pathways ahead, particularly as you develop 21st century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and problem solving.”- Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazly, AC, KC.

The NYSF would like to thank everyone who attended the receptions, including NYSF participants and their families, Student Staff Leaders, Rotary representatives, and invited guests. The Governors' Receptions enable students to meet one another before attending the NYSF Year 12 Program in January and share their passion for science with the Governors and their guests. Thank you to our hosts for assisting in organising these events and making the day special for NYSF participants.
