Help Rebecca support PNG earthquake victims - feature image, used as a supportive image and isn't important to understand article

"We are so lucky in Australia to have efficient emergency response teams in times of disaster, be it floods, fires or cyclones. The communities affected in PNG are so isolated, many still don't have adequate shelter more than a month on."

Every hour of every day there is someone around the world in need of a ShelterBox.

ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and vital aid to people affected by chaos of disaster and conflict worldwide. In partnership with Rotary, aid is generally supplied as a ShelterBox or ShelterKit that contains essential items that assist in turning shelter into a home.

On 28 February 2018, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake rocked Papua New Guinea, killing 145 people and affecting 500,000 people.  Families in remote mountain locations, their villages and communities have been devastated and the emergency shelter need remains high.

NYSF 2006 Alumna and Rotaract member, Rebecca Fry, has taken matters into her own hands hoping to raise funding for ShelterBoxes to dispatch to PNG.

“Each ShelterBox is $1000 each and our goal is to raise as many shelter boxes as possible in April and May!”

“We are so lucky in Australia to have efficient emergency response teams in times of disaster, be it floods, fires or cyclones. The communities affected in PNG are so isolated, many still don't have adequate shelter more than a month on. ShelterBox is a sustainable solution to helping communities rebuild their lives after times of crisis. Rotaract is an incredible platform for people to create the change they want to see in the world. We figured if we could get our Rotaract Clubs to collaborate (and possibly some Rotary Clubs and other community groups in the process!), we can create a massive positive impact for those who need our help.”

“We have created a fundraising page on Everyday Hero. People who would like to help/support can donate directly or create a page in our team if they are keen to run fundraising events eg. movie nights, trivia, cake stalls, BBQs, fun runs etc,” said Rebecca.

Last year the NYSF participants sponsored a Shelterbox that went to a very needy family in war ravaged Syria READ MORE.  This year during the NYSF Year 12 Program students raised enough to fund another ShelterBox.

If you would like to help Rebecca and the PNG ShelterBox drive you can donate directly or create a page in their team if you are keen to run fundraising events eg. movie nights, trivia, cake stalls, BBQs, fun runs etc.
